Recently, when attempting to move a mailbox from Exchange 2010 to Office 365 Exchange Online via hybrid migration, I received the following error…
Error: MigrationPermanentException: You can't use the domain because it's not an accepted domain for your organization. --> You can't use the domain because it's not an accepted domain for your organization.
To resolve, I had to remove any “non-accepted domains” (e.g. non-routable domain names like ‘domainname.local’) from my on premise organization that wouldn’t be migrated to Office 365 and remove all associated SMTP addresses from the mailboxes being migrated.
NOTE: The email address policy may need to be updated as well to remove the domain causing the error.
If the on premise organization only contains non-routable domains, make sure to add a UPN suffix that will match the domain in the Office 365 account.
